A direct translation from the French ‘Faux Amis’, the title of this long term project stems from the idea of life as an ever evolving series of changing and unpredictable events that rarely yield any concrete security or truth. Yet, we all constantly seek at the very least our own security and truth as deeply subjective as this may be. These images seek to represent some small of that sense of paradox and contradiction, beauty and fragility of human existence.
I am a photographer and printer based in Dublin, Ireland where I run small specialist photographic print studio catering for artists. Together with 2 others, I also produce limited edition handmade photobooks under the name Blink Editions. We have produced 3 books to date, two of which are my own. I have a deep appreciation for the print process and while an expert in modern fine art printing techniques, I also use, and sometimes fuse, this with 19th Century techniques such as platinum/palladium and gum bichromate. Thematically my work has tended to stick to the personal with a particular interest in memory, illusion and philosophical issues. My photographs have been exhibited widely over the last 15 years and belong to many private and public collections.
