Artist Statement
What do we remember? How do we remember? A whole life from a another time recalled in ten impulses of the memory, born like a poem. The Spain of My Father The images of my memories have caught the fading light of forgetfulness Small in-between moments seem to hold a magnifying glass over themselves where perceptions of you keep flowing in circles trying to find a focus the loud arena quick-moving raging black bull constant changing silhouette seen from a young girl’s eyes shut the curtains, somebody is smoking and listening to the radio as their trousers crease.
Bio
Born Lerida, Spain 1963 Photographer Writer Storyteller Video Artist Languages: Spanish, Catalan, Dutch, English, French, Italian Daughter of a concert grade pianist and a businessman/photographer, who gave her her first camera at the age of 10. A Kodak Instamatic 25, still Married and mother of 4 children Started er career as a photo assistant and gallery assistant in a photo gallery in Lerida (Spain) Moved to Barcelona. Moved to Amsterdam a the age of 27 Worked in Amsterdam with the camera obscura photographer specialist Ilan Wolff. Moves to London. Moves to Antwerp 2005 where she currently lives. Growing up in a very rich cultural environment but in a strict spartan way of living, shaped her way of seeing life and applying it to photography. Trying to find her way between tradition and modernity she worked with all types of cameras, analog, digital, and camera obscura. Through these shifts in technique and approach, she found herself fascinated not only by the image self but by the paper where it is presented and the poetry of the whole process, which is like life itself, full of traces. She has published “Portrait with shrimp croquet” (Ludion) and “Here be Lions” ( Ingrid Deuss Gallery). Her third art book “Beyond Borders”(Ludion) will be the first of an artbook trilogy. She has hold exhibitions in Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Paris.
