ハンガリー写真家フランシス・ハール（1908-97）は、第2次世界大戦戦禍に追われ、
運命の不思議な糸に手繰り寄せられるかのように欧州から日本に逃れると、戦前戦後を
通して生涯日本文化を海外に発信する活動を続けました。
本展は彼が1956年秋に渡米する以前に取材した日本の芸術家13人の肖像写真（オリジナルヴィンテージプリント）を展観するものです。

撮影された芸術家：荒川豊蔵、伊藤道郎、河井寛次郎、川合玉堂、北大路魯山人、篠田桃紅、芹沢銈介、千 宗室、濱田庄司、棟方志功、森田子龍、柳 宗悦、横山大観

JAPANESE ARTISTS OF THE 1950s, PHOTOGRAPHS BY FRANCIS HAAR

Hungarian photographer Francis Haar (1908-97) fled from Europe to Japan due to the ravages of World War II, pulled by a mysterious thread of fate. He continued to promote Japanese culture overseas throughout his life, before and after the war.This exhibition features portraits (original vintage prints) of thirteen Japanese artists he interviewed and photographed before moving to the United States in the fall of 1956.
